This year’s PlayStation Plus service is undergoing major changes, but in the meantime we’re still getting the same deal. While we wait for the new service to launch, let’s take a look at what PlayStation Plus subscribers may expect in April.
Hood: Outlaws & Legends
The PS5 game of this month is going to be Hood: Outlaws & Legends, a PvPvE experience developed by Sumo Digital. It’s a multiplayer focused game, so PlayStation is keeping the pattern of offering co-op, multiplayer games each month. The game relatively flew under the radar, yet it offers a good balance of multiplayer and PvE fun. Up to four players can join the squad to pull the heist of their lives, using abilities and skills unique to each character they control.
The issue with the game is its lack of content, as there are relatively few maps and the gameplay tends to get monotonous. However, there is a clear roadmap from the developers and the game is currently in its second season, so new things are on the horizon. For those of you who don’t enjoy multiplayer games, you won’t have many things to do in Hood: Outlaws & Legends. Also, the game will come to both PS4 and PS5 members.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated
SpongeBob fans rejoice! The popular platformer SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated (that’s a moutful) is one of the two PS4 games offered this month. Battle for Bikini Botton is all-time classic platformer that received the remaster service recently. Now, players can even enjoy a competitive multiplayer mode, where they can control the beloved characters in all kinds of mini-games.
It is not only a great game for platforming fans, but a fun experience everyone should try. Other than that, if you are into neither the genre or the cartoon, there is not much that appeals to you. However, we highly recommend the game if you just want to have some innocent fun.
Slay the Spire
Slay the Spire is probably the most interesting offer this month. It is a a deckbuilder TCG experience combined with roguelike elements. The gameplay is fun, and being a roguelike where you have hundreds of cards to choose from for your deck, the replayability aspect is top notch. There are tens of enemies and bosses that will test your deck, so the game is not a walk in the park either.
Slay the Spire is quite a unique game and it managed to combine two genres successfully. Whether you like Hades or TCGs like Yu-Gi-Oh, you are in for some good fun.
In conclusion, the PlayStation Plus games for April provide a variety of experiences that aren’t as niche as those from previous months. If you enjoy having fun with your mates, Hood: Outlaws & Legends is worth enjoying. If you love platformers, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated is the place to go. Strategy and roguelike fans must try Slay the Spire.
The PlayStation Plus Games will be available on Tuesday, April 5.
Verdict: A great month with plenty of options for fans of many genres.
